Recessed Plates

Until further notice my recessed switchplate system is not available.  I can provide switchplates without the radiused edge, as seen in the photo to the left,  but I still have to figure out a better way to mold the pocket.  I had one customer use my molds.  They were overheated and warped like a potato chip.

OUR RECESSED PLATES provide a distinctive look and are a unique solution to mounting over uneven surfaces. The decision to use recessed plates must be made prior to installation of the stone and electrical boxes. See Recessed Plate Pocket Molding Instructions for more details.

Recessed Plate Pocket Molding Instructions

To create the recessed pocket simply leave enough room for the plate and a grout line around it when installing the stone around the electrical box, which needs to be a 1/4” or more below the face of the stone, and follow the steps listed below.

Step 1) Use enough setting compound or grout in the pocket so that it will fill in the area around the box and under the mold plate.
Step 2) Screw the mold plate into the box until it is flush and square with the wall surface.
Step 3) After grouting around the mold plate use a work light to heat the mold to approximately 110—120 degrees. The mold plate must be heated so that it will expand to create the proper size pocket for the recessed wallplate. After the grout cures turn off the light and let the mold plate cool.  Once the mold plate has cooled it will shrink slightly and be loose in the pocket  for easy removal.

Now the pocket is ready for the fixture to be installed. When installing the fixture, be careful not to damage the grout.
